It has been almost 300 years since Jonathan Swift’s classic novel Gulliver’s Travels was first published. Since its inception, this story has captivated readers of all ages around the world as it follows the adventures of Lemuel Gulliver to unknown lands and introduces them to previously unheard-of creatures and people.
In Gulliver’s first voyage, he is shipwrecked on Lilliput after the ship he is traveling in blows up. After calming down from the tumult and offering assistance to his rescuers, Gulliver begins his exploration of Lilliput and its inhabitants – a race of diminutive humans called Lilliputians. During his explorations, he discovers how different their culture is compared to that of his homeland England and finds himself embroiled in a conflict between two factions in their society.
After his first trip to Lilliput, Gulliver is thrown back ashore during a shipwreck and then becomes a prisoner of a race of neutered people on an island, who are less than 6 inches (15 cm) tall and are a resident of Lilliput. After providing stipulations regarding his conduct, he is given a home in Lilliput and becomes a favorite of the Lilliput Royal Court. He is also given permission to travel around by the Kingdom of Lilliput officials.
